Continuum

Plaster casts of the artist, taken every 5 years

Overview

Continuum is Len Murusalu’s lifetime project, started in 2005 when she was 20 years old. Every 5 years she takes a plaster cast of her body and puts parts of it in a display stand. Currently, this work consists of four casts from 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020 as well as an empty display box reserved for the next cast to be taken in 2025.

Regardless of how many display cases form the project, the work will always feature an empty cabinet waiting for its next plaster statue.

Continuum is inspired by the Eastern way of thinking, that an individual periodically changes their life as if by shedding a skin. By doing so, one selectively keeps their quintessential qualities, whilst leaving others behind.
