Overview
Peregrina is a series of photographs and poems about being on the journey as a ritual. In 2024, Len Murusalu walked the Camino Francés to Santiago de Compostela, continued on to Finisterre and ended the journey in Muxía. It lasted 40 days – 39 days of walking, one for each year she had lived, and one more day in Santiago de Compostela to mark her approaching 40th birthday.
Walking becomes a repetitive, rhythmic movement that records moments, and the landscape unfolds both as an external space and an inner state: what a person carries with them, what they release along the way, and how the journey shapes the traveller.
Along the Camino, she planted ten acorns brought from Estonia and documented their locations, intending to return in twenty years to see whether any of them have taken root.
The series was exhibited at FOKU Gallery in Tallinn in 2026 together with the video installation Search for the Golden Age (ongoing since 2011), in which the Traveller – a recurring figure in Murusalu’s work – moves across endless landscapes towards a golden horizon that is never reached.
Photographs, 30 x 40 cm and 60 x 80 cm. 2024.
